CUSP Lead School
Brockmoor Primary School: A Proud CUSP Lead School Leading the Way in Excellence, Collaboration, and Innovation
At Brockmoor Primary School, we are proud to be a CUSP Lead School. This recognition reflects the work we have done to secure strong teaching and a carefully planned, knowledge-rich curriculum. As a Lead School, we share our practice with others and work alongside schools across the country to help ensure that every child receives a high-quality education.
CUSP (Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership) is more than a scheme of work. It is an approach built on secure knowledge, clear vocabulary instruction and carefully sequenced learning. At Brockmoor, it underpins how we design lessons, structure progression and think about assessment across every subject.
What It Means to Be a CUSP Lead School
Being a CUSP Lead School means that we:
-
Model strong curriculum design, teaching and assessment.
-
Welcome school leaders and teachers to see the curriculum in action.
-
Base our practice on evidence-informed approaches.
-
Continue to review and refine what we do to maintain high standards.
We regularly host visitors from across the country. These visits give colleagues the opportunity to see lessons, look at pupils' work and discuss how CUSP is implemented in practice. They also allow us to learn from others and strengthen our own provision.
What Visitors Say About Brockmoor
We have welcomed leaders, teachers and curriculum teams from across the UK. Their feedback reflects the culture and standards we work hard to maintain.
"Had a fabulous day! The whole team were extremely welcoming and very helpful. It was great to work with such passionate leaders who were happy to support and help other schools on their journey. I gained so much more from today than I expected. I have come away with inspiration on how to develop our CUSP journey. I will definitely be in contact as I would love you to come and visit us and work with us. I had a great professional learning day! Your children are delightful and you should be extremely proud of the opportunities they get at your school. It felt like a caring environment, with a burning desire to learn."
"Utterly inspirational! I've come away with so much I want to do next to improve our CUSP curriculum. I particularly enjoyed seeing so many different live lessons and looking at books. Talking about assessment was SO useful. The outcomes, behaviour, and attitudes of these children were something I'd aspire to achieve, and I will be telling everyone 'there are no excuses'. Thank you to all the team for all of their hard work and relentlessness-they should feel SO proud!"
We are pleased that visitors recognise the strength of our learning culture and the standards our pupils achieve. Creating a calm, purposeful environment where children can succeed is central to our work.
Why CUSP? The Brockmoor Approach
At Brockmoor, our curriculum is:
-
Knowledge-rich, with carefully sequenced content that builds over time.
-
Vocabulary-focused, with explicit teaching to strengthen language and understanding.
-
Designed around retrieval, so pupils revisit and secure prior learning.
-
Built on high expectations for every child.
-
Supported by regular formative assessment to check understanding and inform next steps.
We see CUSP not simply as a framework, but as a structured way to ensure consistency, clarity and ambition across the school.
